Change Our Game Research Grants Program

The 2023-24 Change Our Game Research Grants Program supports Victorian university researchers to undertake research relating to women and girls in sport and active recreation. It provides grants of up to $25,000 for Victorian researchers to identify tangible, evidence-based solutions to address barriers for women and girls in sport and active recreation in Victoria. The program also aims to support the career development of early career researchers with an interest in gender equality and sport.

Applications are open from Monday, 25 September 2023 and close 5pm ADST, Monday 23 October 2023


To be eligible for funding from the Program, the applicant must be a Victorian university.

Applications must:

  • be submitted by a person employed by a Victorian university, with authority to submit the application on behalf of the Victorian university
  • to be conducted by a proposed research team led by at least one Victoria-based lead researcher
  • include at least one Victoria-based early career researcher in the proposed research team
  • undertake the funded research project predominately in Victoria.

Program Streams

In 2023-24, the program seeks applications for research projects under three streams across six areas of interest:

Stream 1 – Participation in Community Sport and Active Recreation

  • Fair access to community facilities
  • Active recreation participation
  • Sports participation as a driver of future career success.

Stream 2 – Women in Sport Leadership

  • Gender equality in the sport job market
  • Retaining women leaders in sport.

Stream 3 – Visibility of Women in Sport

  • Women in sports media

Application Process

Step 1: Check your eligibility

Check the detailed information contained in the Program Guidelines to see if you are eligible.

Step 2: Apply online using Grants Online

The link to apply online can be found on the Change Our Game website.

Make sure you have the information you need on hand including required documents and click on ‘Start new application’ to submit your application through Grants Online. You will receive an application number when you apply online. Please quote your application number in all correspondence relating to your application.

You will be asked to provide contact details of yourself and the university in the application form. Once you have completed these details, you can attach your research proposal and submit your application. Please make sure you have this information on hand, including any additional attachments you wish to include in your application. Attachments must be an acceptable file type (e.g., Word, Excel, PDF, or JPEG) and don’t exceed 5MB in size.

It is recommended that any application is saved regularly, to avoid content being lost during the application process.
