Two elite swimming meets come to Melbourne
Published: 7 October 2026Melbourne is set to make a splash after securing two elite swimming events: the brand-new SwimGP in 2026 and the Australian Short Course Championships in 2028.

Young Victorian athletes will have the chance to watch Australia’s top swimmers compete in a home pool.
The SwimGP will make its debut in Melbourne on 13 and 14 November, and the Australian Short Course Championships will return to Victoria in 2028.
Both events will be held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The SwimGP is a new event showcasing a range of race formats including mixed relays, individual and para staggered-start races, high-speed skins races and mystery medleys – with bonus points, coaches calls and fan voting all influencing the outcomes.
The Australian Short Course Championships is the country's top competition for swimmers racing in a 25-metre pool.
It will also be the selection event for the 2028 World Short Course Championships in Beijing.
Aussie champions expected to compete at this year’s SwimGP are:
- Mollie O’Callaghan
- Flynn Southam
- Lani Pallister
- Col Pearse
- Sam Williamson
The SwimGP will be an exciting finish after a strong year for Australian swimming, with standout performances at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in California.
The events will be major additions to Victoria’s events calendar, which generates $3.64 billion for the state's economy each year.
