Tarratarra Stadium now open

People in the fast-growing Armstrong Creek community can now enjoy a major new sport and recreation centre, with Tarratarra Stadium now open.

Tarratarra Stadium

The Victorian Government has invested over $48 million towards Tarratarra Stadium, which includes four indoor multi-sport courts, a cafe, and sensory and multifaith rooms.

A civic plaza complements the indoor facilities, with outdoor table tennis, basketball and netball hoops, informal and nature play spaces, plus car parking with electric vehicle charging.

The Australian Government also contributed $6 million to the project.

The stadium will be an important place for local residents now and in the future. It includes areas for indoor and outdoor community events, helping people stay active and connect with others across Armstrong Creek.

Children and adults will have many sports to choose from, including badminton, pickleball, volleyball, futsal, netball and basketball.

The Victorian Government worked closely with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation when planning the stadium. The corporation gifted the name Tarratarra [pronounced TAR-RA-TAR-RA], which recognises Wadawurrung’s ongoing connection to the area.

Tarratarra means ‘many wings’ and was inspired by the River Red Gum Ghost Moth. The moth design is used across the stadium, including on the front of the building, inside walls, a vertical marker, plaza features and signs.

This investment has supported over 900 jobs and 36 businesses during construction and will continue to deliver for the region through the jobs created in the ongoing running of the centre.

Tarratarra Stadium is one of three projects in the Geelong region and one of 18 projects across regional Victoria funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.

The program is helping make communities better places to live, work, stay and play.
