The project gave a real economical boost to the local area.
It's provided 500 jobs for the local community.
Built by Geelong people, for Geelong people.
Vision: Victorian Government logo.
The Victorian Government invested more than $20 million for the project, through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, benefiting the seven clubs and more than 750 players that call the centre home each week.
The new western pitch has a premium WETT Pro surface installed by Victorian company TigerTurf, which meets International Hockey Federation Global Category standards. The surface supports faster play in all weather, from local weekend games to national competitions.
A new two-storey pavilion sits between the venue’s two pitches. Downstairs are 4 change rooms, rooms for match officials, a canteen, equipment storage and a first aid room. Upstairs is a social space, meeting room, kitchen and terrace seating that overlooks both pitches.
The pavilion’s central location gives all players, including women and girls, equal access to change rooms and facilities. It also gives spectators better views. A new access road and extra parking, including accessible spaces, will help more people use the popular venue.
The centre also has new fencing, drainage, an electronic scoreboard and 500 lux LED lighting. These upgrades will support many activities and events, including national-level hockey.
The venue features First Peoples-inspired designs. Wadawurrung artist Chloe Chatterton of Karringala Art created the artwork with young Hockey Geelong members.
The project supported 544 jobs and engaged 36 businesses during construction, which delivered economic benefits across the region.
The upgraded centre is home to Hockey Geelong. It will give more players, fans and families a place to enjoy hockey closer to home. From 2027, Hockey Club Melbourne will play at least one home game at the centre annually for the next 3 years, bringing elite hockey to Geelong.
The project adds to the new hockey pitch at Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay. That pitch opened in December 2025 and was also funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
The program is helping make communities better places to live, work, stay and play.
