Ballarat Sports Events Centre (also known as Selkirk Stadium) received more than $4.5 million from the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program for various upgrades.
The 2027 Super Netball Ballarat Blitz will return for its fourth year on 20–21 February 2027, with the Melbourne Vixens headlining the popular pre-season event.
In 2026, the Ballarat Blitz drew nearly 6,000 fans and reached a broadcast audience of more than 120,000. The Victorian Government supports the event through the Significant Sporting Events Program (SSEP), which brings national and international sporting events to communities across Victoria.
Fans and players can look forward to a better stadium experience with new electric heating and cooling, show court lighting, upgraded electronic scoreboards, wider CCTV coverage, improved broadcast systems, more wall and roof-mounted speakers, and swipe-card access.
Better lighting and sound, stronger public safety and a more comfortable indoor temperature will improve every visit. Enhanced broadcast systems will also deliver clearer coverage of televised events, including NBL1 games.
The stadium will also be easier for everyone to use. Accessibility upgrades meet current building codes and Universal Design principles. They include a renovated kitchen, larger wayfinding signs, and new walking paths within the precinct and between the bus stop and stadium entrance.
The project also boosted the regional economy, supporting 89 jobs and engaging 38 businesses during construction.
The Ballarat Sports Events Centre is already a busy home for community and elite sport. It is home to the Ballarat Miners, the city’s NBL1 men’s and women’s basketball teams, and the Wendouree Netball Association. It also hosts many Basketball Ballarat events and will welcome two Women’s National Basketball League games in the coming months.
The Ballarat Sports Events Centre is one of five Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects in Ballarat and one of 18 across regional Victoria. Together, these projects are creating stronger communities and better places to live, work, stay and play.
