Socceroo star joins Racism Doesn’t Belong In Our Game Campaign
Published: 28 October 2026Socceroo and Melbourne City FC star Awer Mabil joined the Racism Doesn't Belong in Our Game roadshow at Melbourne City FC, Casey Fields in October.

The Racism Doesn't Belong in Our Game campaign features stories from 7 Victorians across community sport and provides resources to help clubs prevent and respond to racism.
'Australia is the best country in the world because of the different backgrounds of everyone here,' Mabil said.
'The campaign is very important. Nobody should be denied an opportunity to play,' Mabil said, reflecting on his experience of racism in his life and football career.
Joining Mabil was Victoria's First Nations state netball team head coach and campaign spokesperson Lee Bevan-Woodley.
'Giving people a voice who don't feel comfortable speaking up, or don't have the opportunity is really important,' she said.
For Mabil, creating a more inclusive sporting culture is also about inspiring future generations.
'I want the young ones to see that someone who looks like them is able to go to the World Cup and play for the Australian team.'
The campaign follows the Anti-Racism Pledge signed in 2025 by:

- Basketball Victoria
