Big facilities win for Ararat sport
Published: 2 September 2024Sport at Ararat’s Gordon Street Recreation Reserve is set to go to the next level, thanks to the completion of recent works at the popular regional sports venue.
Works have delivered a new pavilion with Australian rules football change rooms, shared cricket and soccer change rooms, a large community space for gatherings, and player, official and public amenities.
The new building provides the perfect foundation for home clubs including Ararat Storm Female Football Club, St Andrews Cricket Club, Chalambar Cricket Club, Stawell Pioneers, Ararat and District Little Athletics, to grow their teams and build the local game.
The project also delivered upgrades to the oval and Little Athletics track surfaces, athletics throwing and jumping areas, a new soccer pitch, as well as new outdoor sports lighting, opening-up the venue to more training, development and competition.
The Victorian Government provided $2.55 million towards the project from the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program with Ararat Rural City Council kicking in $315,000 and the Australian Government providing $1.86 million.
Over the past decade the Victorian Government has invested more than $2.3 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure across the state.
Initiatives like these create jobs, stimulate local economies and improve the health, wellbeing and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
