State sport trust entities

State sport trust entities perform a range of important functions, from the management of Melbourne's key sports and entertainment facilities to the development of Victoria's elite athletes. They report to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.

Kardinia Park Stadium Trust

The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust is a statutory authority established under the Kardinia Park Stadium Act 2016 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The primary functions of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust are to manage and operate the Kardinia Park Trust Land, which includes the Kardinia Park Stadium in Geelong.

Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust

The Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust is a statutory authority established under the Melbourne Cricket Ground Act 2009 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust is responsible for the management, control and development of the MCG. It works in conjunction with the Melbourne Cricket Club.

Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust

The Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust is a statutory authority established under the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Act 1985 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The primary functions of Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust are to manage and operate the Melbourne and Olympic Parks precinct for the conduct of sport, entertainment, functions, and events for Victorians.

State Sport Centres Trust

The State Sport Centres Trust is a statutory authority established under the State Sport Centres Act 1994 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

The primary functions of the State Sport Centres Trust are to manage and operate the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, the State Netball and Hockey Centre, Lakeside Stadium and the Knox Regional Sports Park, which includes the State Basketball Centre.

Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board of Victoria

Professional boxing and combat sports in Victoria are regulated under the Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Act 1985 and the Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Regulations 2018 to:

  • promote safety
  • reduce the risk of malpractice
  • uphold industry integrity.

The Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board is responsible for:

  • licensing promoters, trainers, referees, judges and matchmakers
  • registering contestants and issuing permits to licensed promoters for boxing, kickboxing and other combat sports promotions
  • supervising weigh-ins and promotions
  • advising the Minister on all matters relating to professional boxing and combat sports.

The Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board educates the sector through provision of guidelines and targeted engagement.

Victorian Institute of Sport

The Victorian Institute of Sport conducts programs to assist the development of Australia's and Victoria's best athletes. The Institute provides advanced and specialised coaching, sports science and sports medicine services, career and education advice, and training and competition support.
