Vouchers kicking goals for kids
Published: 29 October 2024From joining a local footy club to signing up for swim lessons, the Get Active Kids Voucher Program continues to kick in for kids and families who need it most across the state.
Almost 150,000 vouchers have already been provided to families since the program launched in late 2020 – with thousands more to come from this upcoming round thanks to a recent $3 million top up for the program.
The positive impact of the vouchers is apparent with more than half of families saying their kids would not have been able to participate without the voucher.
Our Sport and Recreation Victoria team that help process the applications often get thank you emails from parents and kids.
One recent email from a young football player from Bundoora mentioned the voucher has helped cover most of the registration costs to play local footy over the last 2 seasons.
And he’s not only happy that he can play footy with his mates but he’s happy also that the vouchers have taken some financial pressure off his mum.
That’s the great thing about these vouchers. They can help eligible families pay for costs associated with membership and registration, including uniform and equipment items.
Parents and guardians can apply for up to a $200 Get Active Kids voucher online and it’s not just kids that love their summer sports that benefit.
Vouchers can be used up to 29 April 2025 so kids that love their winter sports like footy can use them to help with registration costs as well.
Vouchers can be redeemed at a registered Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider – such as a local sporting club or organisation.
By being a provider, clubs get more memberships and can provide even more opportunities for kids to reach their potential.
The scheme has opened doors to sport participation with 22% of children who received a voucher joining a local sporting club for the first time and over 50% of voucher recipients also indicated they would not have been able to participate in their chosen sport or activity without the financial support provided by the program.
