Equity and Inclusion Community Consultation Group
The Equity and Inclusion Community Consultation Group has the potential to make a real difference when it comes to equity and inclusion in community sport and active recreation.
The Group, which met for the first time on 3 October 2023, has the potential to make a real difference when it comes to equity and inclusion in community sport and active recreation.
Over the next 12 months, the Group will play an important role in helping to shape Sport and Recreation Victoria’s policy development, projects and programs.
This will ensure that Victorian communities that participate less in sport and active recreation will have their voices heard and considered.
Through co-design sessions with diverse communities, the Group will assist Sport and Recreation Victoria to create more equitable, inclusive and accessible programs.
Increasing and promoting participation opportunities that give more Victorians a chance to participate in sport and active recreation is a key objective of Active Victoria 2022-2026 – A strategic framework for sport and active recreation in Victoria.
Priority community groups
Some communities in Victoria experience greater barriers to participation in sport and active recreation.
To address this issue, the Victorian Government is ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community, including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) communities
- people from LGBTIQ+ communities
- older people
- low-income earners
- people with disability
- women and girls
- gender diverse people
- people living in regional or rural areas
- young people (including those not engaged in education or employment).
The group brings together a cohort of community members whose combination of professional experience, intersectional lived experience, and passion for social issues will help provide advice to Sport and Recreation Victoria and create better participation opportunities for all Victorians.
