Concept designs complete for new pavilion at Stead Park
Published: 11 November 2024Hockey fans across Geelong and Surf Coast will get the chance to find out more about their new home venue with the much-anticipated completion of the concept design phase for upgrades to Corio’s Stead Park.
Features of the development include demolition of the existing pavilion, with a new pavilion to be located in a more convenient, central position between the venue’s two hockey pitches.
The new pavilion will boast four change rooms, match official rooms, a canteen, equipment and team storage, and first aid on the ground floor. The second level will feature a social space, a meeting room and kitchen, with seating on the terrace overlooking both pitches.
The location of the new pavilion will give players on both of the pitches equal access to change rooms and amenities, and will improve spectator viewing.
The design of the venue’s western pitch includes new fencing, drainage, an electronic scoreboard and sports lighting to ensure it can host a range of activities and events including national-level hockey.
Additional parking, including accessible parking along a new access road will maximise access and use of this popular venue.
Stead Park is a significant sports facility for Corio and is home to the Geelong Hockey Association. These enhancements will strengthen its reputation as a premier hockey venue and give more players, fans and families access to the sport they love, closer to home.
Stead Park is one of five projects in the Geelong Sports Package and is one of 16 projects across regional Victoria that are part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, making our communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.
