Regional Sports Infrastructure Program – Latrobe
Sporting venues in the Latrobe region are set for some exciting upgrades through the Victorian Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, ensuring it remains a key destination for sports, entertainment and community activities.
These upgrades will modernise facilities and support the region’s athletes, sporting clubs and community organisations.
Latrobe projects include:
- Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium
- Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park
- Morwell Gun Club
- Ted Summerton Reserve.
With enhanced accessibility and modern amenities, sports venues in Gippsland will welcome residents, visitors and major events – boosting the local economy and creating new jobs.
Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium
Sport lovers in Gippsland can look forward to a raft of better facilities for indoor sports including basketball, netball, badminton, gymnastic and table tennis.
The Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium upgrades will deliver:
- new and refurbished change rooms
- upgraded show court lighting
- new broadcasting facilities
- upgraded foyers
- new solar panels and more.
Works at the stadium are set to be completed by mid-2026.

Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park
From elite soccer to live music, Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park in Morwell is a major sport and entertainment hub in Gippsland.
The transformation of the venue includes:
- a new pavilion with change rooms and amenities
- redeveloped and upgraded pitches with new lighting and player facilities
- a new change pod
- additional car parking to increase visitor capacity.
The upgrades are expected to be completed in late 2026.

Morwell Gun Club
Upgrades at Gippsland’s only Olympic trap shooting facility will eliminate the need for members and local athletes to travel to Melbourne, Mildura or Echuca for training.
The upgrades include:
- 2 new Olympic Trap shooting ranges
- player shelters
- LED lighting
- power upgrade
- an armoury
- accessible carparks, pathways and more.
The Morwell Gun Club has been operating for more than 80 years, with members representing Australia in numerous World and Commonwealth Championship competitions.
Construction at the Morwell Gun Club is due to be completed early 2026.
Ted Summerton Reserve
Works at Moe’s premier cricket and football venue are underway so the facility can continue to be the home for the Moe Football Netball Club, Moe Cricket Club, Cricket Latrobe Valley, the Moe Fire Brigade and be the Gippsland Regional Cricket Centre for years to come.
Works include:
- redevelopment of the oval surface
- new lighting and new changerooms
- electronic scoreboard and sight screen
- refurbishment of the existing pavilion
- new undercover terracing
- accessibility improvements across the reserve and more.
As a regional sporting hub, these upgrades will improve its capacity to host events, supporting local businesses and creating employment opportunities during construction.
Ted Summerton Reserve upgrades are expected to be completed in late 2026.

15 Nov 2024 – Gippsland sporting upgrades move ahead
Gippsland’s sport and entertainment venues are getting major upgrades with plans for the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium underway.

Local firm JJC Design has been appointed to lead design works for stadium facilities – including a new change room for officials, roof works and lighting design.
Key milestones have also been reached at the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park and Morwell Gun Club with the appointment of Brand Architects as the principal design consultant for both projects.
The Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park is getting a new pavilion with change rooms, upgraded pitches with better lighting, new player facilities and a bigger car park – which will increase capacity and allow bigger competitions and tournaments to be held there.
Meanwhile, Morwell Gun Club is getting a brand new shooting range and security fencing, creating a much bigger space for the sport.
Expressions of Interest are now open for a Head Contractor to deliver the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park and Morwell Gun Club.
Architecture Matters has been appointed as lead design consultant for the Ted Summerton Reserve upgrade, which will include a new pavilion with change rooms, upgraded accessible change facilities, new lighting, scoreboard and sightscreen. The upgrades will be a game changer for everyone who uses the venue, including local footballers, netballers and cricketers.
These new and upgraded facilities are funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program which is part of a record $45 billion investment in projects and programs that matter to regional communities – including more than $2.3 billion for sport and active recreation infrastructure across Victoria.

The Victorian Government is making a landmark investment in Gippsland’s sporting infrastructure, with huge upgrades to 4 popular facilities in the area making sure more Gippslanders can play and watch their favourite sports.

A new Gippsland Sports Package is delivering 4 projects across the region as part of the Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium is one of 15 world-class sporting facilities across the state to see major upgrades to the venue, including upgrades to 4 playing courts and new lighting and technology for broadcasting.
More players will benefit from upgrades to changerooms and toilets while new solar panels and skylights will ensure this project provides players have the facilities they need to succeed for generations to come.
From elite soccer to live music, the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park is a major sport and entertainment hub for the region, used by Melbourne Victory and for wrestling tournaments, concerts, expos and more.
A major upgrade will deliver a new pavilion and upgraded pitches complete with lighting and increased visitor capacity, boosting local jobs and businesses and the region’s economy as thousands of visitors flock to Gippsland to see their favourite sport and entertainment stars.
The Gippsland Sports Package is also delivering 2 more sports venue upgrades in Gippsland – including the Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe, which will benefit from a refurbished oval, lighting, amenities, and terraces while the Morwell Gun Club will also be boosted by a new shotgun trap shooting range and safety upgrades.
These projects will help increase sports participation among the Gippsland community and bring more elite sport to regional Victoria, supporting local businesses.
