A first-class facility for Formula 1 and the community.

The Albert Park pit building is undergoing a redevelopment, cementing it as a premier sporting and recreational hub.

This exciting project aims to deliver world-class facilities that cater to elite motorsport and community needs.

The new pit building project will help maintain Victoria’s prized place on the Formula 1 race calendar for years to come by:

  • upgrading the existing pit building that was built in 1995 to meet Formula 1’s technical requirements of the modern race
  • expanding the type of community sports the current building can host.

What are the pit building upgrades?

A state-of-the-art pit building, featuring:

  • 14 new garages
  • new facilities for race control and administration
  • new media centre
  • 5,000 capacity Paddock Club and supporting amenities.

Reinvigorated community facilities, featuring:

  • 7 brand new indoor sports courts with compliant ceiling heights to cater for more sports
  • clubrooms with modern facilities for local sporting clubs using the outdoor playing fields.

Economic impact

The Australian Grand Prix is a significant part of Victoria’s exciting calendar of major events. It gives locals the chance to enjoy world-class culture, sports and entertainment, while providing a boost of over $3.3 billion a year to our economy.

An economic report published in 2023 showed the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix poured $268 million into Victoria’s visitor economy and supported 1,149 full time jobs.

The 2025 event attracted over 465,000 fans, with hotel occupancy in central Melbourne reaching 94% the night before the race.

A commitment to community

Beyond its role in hosting international events, the redevelopment ensures that the pit building serves the local community year-round.

The upgraded facilities will provide a sporting hub for future generations.

This is more than just an infrastructure project, it is a strategic investment in Victoria's future.

By improving our state's sporting facilities and supporting major events, we are fostering economic growth, community well-being, and global recognition.

This project highlights Victoria's commitment to being a leader in world-class events and sustainable community development.
