Shepparton-based construction firm appointed as head contractor in charge of building BMX club’s new two-storey pavilion.
When completed, the 2-storey pavilion will offer elevated views of the BMX track, creating an improved atmosphere and experience for spectators, as well as serving as a new hub for events and community gatherings.
The pavilion will serve as the centerpiece of broader upgrades to the Shepparton BMX Club, including enhancements to the BMX track and starting hill, improving conditions for riders, spectators and broadcasting, along with new lighting for the adjacent velodrome.
The construction of the pavilion will provide a significant boost to local jobs and businesses and represents the latest in a long line of projects to benefit the Shepparton community that Moretto Building Pty Ltd has been involved with.
Since the company was founded in the 1960s, they have worked on projects including the development of the Wyndham Mall Shepparton – the city’s first shopping mall – in 1980, the construction of SPC Factory Sales premise in 1998 and the 2011 refurbishment of the Shepparton Art Gallery. In more recent times Moretto Building Pty Ltd has delivered a pavilion at Shepparton’s Sports City and an amenities and ticket booth at Deakin Reserve.
The Shepparton BMX Club upgrade is being delivered through the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program in partnership with the Greater Shepparton City Council.
Mayor of Greater Shepparton City Council, Councillor Shane Sali welcomed the appointment of Moretto Building Pty Ltd, highlighting how appropriate it was for local builders to work on a project that reflected the local community’s passion for BMX.
'Greater Shepparton City Council is extremely pleased to award the tender for this game-changing upgrade to local company Moretto Building,' Councillor Sali said.
'Our region lives and breathes BMX and this new multi-use events pavilion will help take our local talent to new heights.
'Greater Shepparton is a proven host of many successful local, state, national and international BMX and cycling events. This world-class facility will ensure our region is well placed to continue hosting events of this nature.'
The Regional Sports Infrastructure Program is part of the Victorian Government’s record $45 billion investment over the past decade in projects and programs that matter to regional communities.
Alongside the Shepparton BMX Club, there are an additional 15 projects delivering new or upgraded sporting venues across the state, to help regional cities and towns become even better places to live, work, stay and play.
Ranging from improvements to local clubs’ facilities, through to upgrades and expansion of some of regional Victoria’s most prominent stadiums and sporting grounds, these projects will help increase sports participation in regional communities and bring more elite sport to regional Victoria, supporting local businesses.

12 April 2024 – Helping Shepparton's sport stars pedal to new heights
The Victorian Government is backing bigger and better BMX and cycling facilities in Shepparton, with participants to score new and upgraded infrastructure so more people can get involved in sport.

The project is one of 15 sporting infrastructure projects across the state to benefit from the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
As home of the AusCycling BMX Racing National Championships, the Shepparton BMX Club teaches and inspires the next generation of BMX riders to go to the next level.
The upgrades will include a new pavilion, major track upgrades including the start hill, and new broadcasting equipment to show the events to the wider community. The project also includes an upgrade to the velodrome lighting within the precinct.
These upgrades will boost participation, attract more major events and elite sport to the Shepparton region, and make sure the club remains a world-class BMX venue for generations to come.
This investment will drive local jobs, businesses and the region’s economy as thousands of visitors travel to Shepparton to see some of the world’s best sport stars in action.
Further updates on the project will be provided in the coming months, with works to kick off later this year.
