Upgrades at Ballarat Sports Events Centre bounce forward
Published: 17 November 2025Upgrades at Ballarat Sports Events Centre, also known as Selkirk Stadium, are moving forward in leaps and bounds with local company S.J. Weir (Ballarat) appointed to deliver building and access improvement works over the summer.

Funded through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, this second of 3 works packages includes:
- updating accessibility to meet current building code and universal design principles
- improving existing, and constructing new pedestrian pathways within the precinct, including to and from the bus stop and stadium entrance
- a mobile broadcast platform to better support televised events
- carpet tiles to protect sports floor areas during large scale events.
S.J. Weir is a local Ballarat-founded, award-winning company with more than 105 years’ construction experience across regional Victoria. Their list of local achievements includes the Ballarat City Hall Restoration, Federation University Sports Science Building, Ballarat & District Trotting Club, and BCC Ballarat Fitness Centre.
Works already underway at the Ballarat Sports Events Centre include:
- swipe card access control
- electronic scoreboard upgrades
- expanded CCTV coverage
- additional wall mounted speakers
- a new roof solar panel system.
Further planned works include upgrades to the show court, broadcast and lighting facilities, and heating and cooling systems – ensuring athletes and spectators experience a first-class venue all year round.
Ballarat Sports Events Centre is the region’s premier sports and entertainment venue. It is home to the Ballarat Miners, the city’s NBL1 men’s and women’s basketball teams and hosts various events for Basketball Ballarat. It’s also a thriving hub for community sports.
Works at the stadium are expected to finish in mid-2026.
