Around 100 people of all ages attended the ISSF Grand Opening Shoot, welcoming the completion of works backed by the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.

The upgrade at Gippsland’s only Olympic trap shooting facilities now include 2 new Olympic trap shooting ranges, new player shelters, separation fencing, LED lighting, an armoury, maintenance shed, more accessible car parking, pathways and more.

Morwell Gun Club President, a 2-time National Champion and 10-time Victorian state representative, Todd Malone said the upgrades will enable the Club to offer more developmental pathways for the internationally recognised shooting sport and provide greater access for athletes of all abilities.

‘Having a world class facility such as this locally will be a major advantage for potential and aspiring Olympic athletes to train over,' he said.

‘It will save hours of time and money commuting back and forth to Melbourne.'

‘Gippsland has produced some fantastic shooters over the years and being able to train locally will hopefully help future champions to take that next step.’

With the popularity of field sports booming, and families, youth and women taking up clay shooting, the upgrades will deliver opportunities to keep our communities active and connected.

Over the course of the project, more than 100 people across 19 businesses were engaged, contributing to the local economy.

The Morwell Gun Club is one of four Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects in Latrobe City and one of 18 across regional Victoria, making our communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.
