Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre approaches finish line
Published: 30 July 2026Works at the Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre are fast approaching the finish line with the completion of the athletics track, club house roof and façade, equipment shed, light towers and scoreboard.

The new World Athletics Class 2 certified track will be complemented by 200 lux sports field lighting. The facility will also feature a brand-new clubhouse boasting a dedicated photo finish room, change rooms, amenities and community social space to support local competition, school carnivals and bigger athletics events to come to Ballarat.
Once completed the Centre will be the new home for Athletics Ballarat, which incorporates the Ballarat Harriers, Ballarat YCW, Eureka Athletic Club, Wendouree Athletic Club and Ballarat Little Athletics.
Athletics Ballarat Chairperson Matt Jenkins said, ‘Athletics Ballarat is very excited for the opening of this world-class facility, and the opportunities it brings to grow our sport leading into Brisbane 2032.’
Works at the Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre are part of the overall upgrades of the Ballarat Major Events Precinct, which includes two new grandstands featuring an additional 5,000 permanent seats at Mars Stadium and improved accessibiltiy across the precinct.
The Ballarat Major Events Precinct is one of five Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects in Ballarat and one of 18 across regional Victoria, making our communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.

We're here today to be able to get an update on a wonderful new facility, athletics facility here in Ballarat. As the host body for athletics, it's really great to see all the progress that's been made.

What's being built here is a Class 2 World Certified athletics facility, wonderful supporting pavilions, an entire precinct that's going to allow us to be able to some really high level, world-class athletics events here in Ballarat.
It's very exciting!
