Splash Park design unveiled for Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre
Published: 7 April 2026The design for the long-awaited splash park in the Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre has been unveiled, giving the community a glimpse into what’s to come when construction is completed.

A key feature of the new recreation centre, the indoor splash park includes 2 slides, water fountains and jets, and accessible play zones for children of all abilities.
It also offers a unique connection to Country with tiles and equipment colours chosen in consultation with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, representing the shades of water and tones of beaches and cliffs.
Mayor of Surf Coast Shire, Councillor Libby Stapleton said the splash park will be a big drawcard for the centre.
'Parents of young children will be particularly excited, knowing their kids will be able to enjoy water play no matter the weather outside,' she said.
Wurdi Baierr (pronounced word-ee-by-eer) meaning ‘big gathering place’ in Wadawurrung Language will soon be living up to its name, attracting locals and visitors keen to improve their physical and mental health while accessing high-quality facilities for exercise, leisure and allied health services.
Once completed in late 2026, the centre will include an indoor 25 metre pool, learn-to-swim and warm water pools, spa, sauna, steam room and allied health suites. It will be one of the best aquatic and recreation centres in regional Victoria.
The centre is one of two Regional Sports Infrastructure Program projects on the Surf Coast and one of 16 across regional Victoria, making our communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.
