Armstrong Creek sporting complex named

Published: 24 April 2026

The new sporting complex in Armstrong Creek in South Geelong has been given a local Wadawurrung name – Tarratarra Stadium.

Gifted by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, Tarratarra (pronounced TAR-RA-TA-RA), translates to ‘many wings’ and was inspired by the River Red Ghost Moth, which visited Traditional Owner Corina Eccles along Armstrong Creek.

The motif of the moth’s wings has been integrated throughout the facility’s design, including the façade, internal court wall linings, signage, glass safety stickers and vertical marker.

The naming of the facility in Wadawurrung Language recognises Wadawurrung’s continuing connection to the area, the revitalisation of Language, and demonstrates our respect for Traditional Owners and commitment to reconciliation.

The naming of the stadium coincides with the installation of the ‘wings’ on the facility’s  façade.

Tarratarra Stadium features 4 indoor recreational sports courts, a civic plaza with outdoor basketball and netball hoops, table tennis tables, areas for skating and parkour, informal and nature play spaces and a large, landscaped area suitable for community events.

Tarratarra Stadium is scheduled to be complete in late 2026.
