Athletes dive into the 2025 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships
Published: 30 September 2025Cheers will soon echo through Victoria’s home of swimming, the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), as Australia’s swimming stars get set to make a splash at this blockbuster event.
For the first time since 2019 the Australian Short Course Championships will be back in Melbourne at MSAC from October 1-3, thanks to the Significant Sporting Events Program.
This will be the first national event at the recently refurbished outdoor pool and will offer the chance to showcase MSAC as a premier sporting facility which caters for all athletes from elite to grassroots.
Our iconic Dolphins will return to Victoria and enjoy the world-class facilities that world 50m breaststroke champion Sam Williamson and Olympic Open Water swimmer Nicholas Sloman call home.
Jodie Hawkins, Executive General Manager, Commercial, for Swimming Australia said they were excited to deliver the last championships of the year at MSAC with the support of Sport and Recreation Victoria.
'This is a premium facility that we have access to in Melbourne and it’s wonderful to be back.
'The championships will feature a 25-meter race. This is a topic of conversation in the world of swimming right now, and we get the chance to see how fast we can push that 25 meters and build it into our event portfolio,' Jodie said.
Four-time Paralympian and silver medallist Ahmed Kelly said he was coming off a high into the short course and was looking forward to three days of fast paced racing.
'I’m so excited to be back in Melbourne, to have the short course at home is fantastic, it is one of my favourite competitions of the year,' Ahmed said.
Dual Olympian Matthew Temple said he was stoked to be racing short course again.
'I swam well in Singapore and Budapest, and the success has made me hungry. It’s also great to see the young ones come through and race against them, it’s exciting,' Matthew said.
With 500 athletes, 900 support staff and coaches and over 2,000 spectators expected to participate, the 2025 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships are set to make waves.
