It’s amazing how far Australian women in sport have come. But we’re still far from fair. Now is the time to change that.
The Victorian Government is taking action to help more women and girls earn sport leadership roles through the ‘Change Our Game’ campaign.
Informed by the Five Year Game Plan, the Change our Game campaign was announced in November 2016. It’s all about encouraging the sector to challenge gender stereotypes and encourage more women and girls to reach their full potential.
This campaign brings together organisations in a shared effort to increase leadership and participation by women and girls in sport. It includes:
- a social media campaign and website to inspire and motivate change to increase leadership and participation by women and girls
- a ‘Change our Game’ champions program which brings together CEOs from the sector who have made a commitment to change the game in their organisations and sporting code
- funding to more than 40 sector organisations through the Supporting Victorian Sport and Recreation program
- the Female Friendly Sports Infrastructure Guide - a toolkit for sporting organisations complete with recruitment guidelines to help attract more women and girls to sports leadership roles
- partnering with the Office for Prevention and Women’s Equality to support initiatives hat deliver cultural change in sporting clubs and organisations
- working with state sporting associations to achieve a quota of 40 per cent female members by July 2019
- increasing the presence of girls and women in the sports media and showcasing the achievements of our best athletes
- identifying community role models and high profile ambassadors to promote sport and active recreation in the community.
