$1.6 million in funding will make grassroots venues all over Victoria better for budding players. The Victorian Goverment has chipped in an extra $400,000 to make the fund $2 million so that Victorian clubs can enjoy new pavilions, better lights and pitch upgrades.
The overwhelming success of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup exceeded all expectations. Not only did Australia beat South Korea 2-1 in a nail-biting final, it delivered a financial windfall for the entire country.
Record numbers of boys and girls, men and women, are signing up to play soccer, and they deserve modern, upgraded and safe infrastructure. More than 66,000 Victorians registered to play in grassroots soccer competitions in 2016.
11 infrastructure projects will share in $2 million as part of the Victorian Asian Cup 2015 Legacy Fund.
Funded projects include:
- A new pavilion at JT Gray Reserve in Hobsons Bay City Council.
- Construct one natural turf and one synthetic pitch at Painted Hills Recreation Reserve in Whittlesea City Council.
- Install lighting at Newhaven Reserve in Bass Coast City Council.
- Install lighting at Harold Preston Reserve in Latrobe City Council.
- Reconstruct the oval including new drainage, irrigation and grass at Highfield Park (North Oval) in Boroondara City Council.
- Install a new drainage system at Betula Reserve in Casey City Council.
- Install lighting at H.V Jones Reserve in Knox City Council.
- Install lighting at Belmont Park in Maroondah City Council.
- Upgrade lighting at Sumner Park in Moreland City Council
- Install lighting and resurface the ground at Mary Mackillop College in South Gippsland Shire Council.
- Install lighting at Masons Lane Sportsground in Moorabool Shire Council.
