Victoria’s State Sport Centres scoring for all Victorians
In another clear sign our state sport entities are continuing to set new benchmarks, Victoria’s State Sport Centres Trust venues are delivering greater impact than ever before.
Victoria’s State Sport Centres Trust (SSCT) venues have generated more than $363 million for the economy in the last financial year.
SSCT provides world-class facilities for the community and athletes playing and training at any level, overseeing 4 iconic sporting venues across Melbourne:
- Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre
- State Netball and Hockey Centre
- Lakeside Stadium and its State Athletics Centre
- Knox Regional Sports Park which includes the State Basketball Centre.
The release of the Social and Economic Value of State Sport Centres Trust report highlighted the strong results in 2024/25 which also included:
- welcoming 3.1 million attendees
- generating more than $27 million in social benefits
- supporting 2,200 full-time equivalent jobs through SSCT and tenant operations.
The venues play a critical role in Victoria’s sporting sector by hosting a range of community sporting events and activities. They provide modern facilities for 2.3 million users across Victoria. 90 schools utilised the range of sporting sites for over 900 events.
SSCT venues regularly host world-class events, including Men’s and Women’s National Basketball League matches and the Maurie Plant Meet. They are also vital in supporting our nationals teams. SSCT venues also welcomed training sessions for the Australian Opals, Socceroos and Matildas.
These results are possible thanks to the transformations of the SSCT venues in recent years, highlighted by completion of the $132 million State Basketball Centre redevelopment in 2024 and $64 million redevelopment of the State Netball and Hockey Centre in 2021.
