Victorian Institute of Sport and Regional Academies of Sport
Sport and Recreation Victoria helps develop an elite sport pathway for Victorian athletes, coaches, officials and administrators through support provided to the Victorian Institute of Sport and Regional Academies of Sport.

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) was established by the Victorian State Government in 1990 as a private trustee company. Its Board of Directors was appointed by the Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.
The Victorian Institute of Sport is located at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park, allowing high-performance athletes to live and train at Melbourne’s world-class sporting facilities.

Services and support provided to athletes include:
- specialised coaching

- competition support.
The Victorian Institute of Sport also provides services to connect with the broader community including:

Victorian Regional Academy of Sport Network

Each of these academies operates on a similar model to the VIS, with athletes supported by a range of high-performance services using a scholarship model.
