The cost of sports uniforms can be a real barrier to participation, and the Safety Beach Ladies Golf Club were keen to open their doors to more players and build on their senior ranks.
Club Secretary Lynn Gray, said most of club members are 60 years and older with limited funds, with some struggling to meet the cost of the golf shirts.
“The new smart uniform golf shirts have helped to promote self-confidence, self-worth and team spirit. They’ve also encouraged members to volunteer and participate.”
“They’ve also helped encourage members to participate in interclub competitions and promote our club in the community. Thanks to the boost we’re planning for a midweek matchplay team later this year.”
The Sporting Club Grants Program provides grants to assist in the purchase of sports uniforms and equipment and to improve the capacity and accessibility of Victorian clubs and other community sport and recreation organisations and increase the skills of their coaches, officials and managers.
So far, the Sporting Club Grants Program has contributed more than 3,200 grants totalling almost $4.4 million to sport and active recreation clubs across the state.
