The new Child Safe training modules were created by Vicsport and made possible by the Victorian Government.
They include eleven online education sessions aimed at supporting the wider sport and active recreation sector implement the new Child Safe standards, that came into effect on 1 July 2022.
Each module provides valuable insights on what each of the eleven new Victorian Child Safe Standards mean, why they are important and how they can be applied in a variety of sport and active recreation environments.
They feature new standards around establishing a culturally safe environment for kids of all backgrounds including refugees and Aboriginal children, as well as ensuring people working with young people are suitable and supported to reflect current safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Victoria’s Child Safe Standards are a key response to the Victorian Parliament’s Betrayal of Trust Inquiry, which was handed down in 2013, to better respond to allegations of abuse and misconduct.
The new education modules are part of a wider range of Victorian Government backed Vicsport initiatives including instructional videos, workshops and more to support the implementation of the new Child Safety Standards in the sport and active recreation sector.
The Standards apply to over 50,000 organisations including schools, sporting clubs, hospitals and churches.
Organisations subject to the Standards are required to comply with the changes from 1 July 2022.
