The campaign encourages Victorians of all ages, abilities and fitness levels to do 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April.
Since it was introduced in 2008 the campaign has gone from strength to strength and last year a record 124,913 Victorians signed up to get active, including more than 5,000 teams and 2,000 families taking the pledge.
This year a major theme is encouraging parents to get active while they are on the sidelines supporting their children, and today Premier’s Active April Ambassadors Western Bulldogs player, Liam Picken and wife Annie Nolan were onsite at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park to give parents that message while officially launching registrations.
Their message is that our greatest role models are mothers and fathers, and by setting a good example they can kickstart healthier habits.
Another of this year's ambassadors for Premier's Active April is Swinburne University Director of Exercise and Sport Science, Amanda Benson.
She says incorporating 30 minutes of exercise doesn't have to be hard.
"A few small changes can make a big difference from a health perspective," she said.
She believes the Premier's Active April campaign is a great initiative that can help people get started that have been thinking about exercise for a time.
Registration for Premier’s Active April is free, and everyone who signs up has the opportunity to receive 10 free YMCA gym passes or access to their local participating leisure centre, as well as a host of fitness incentives and discounts.
People who register this year will also have access via a mobile or web app to the ‘Get Active Workouts’ video series, which features 30 different 10-minute workout ideas designed to inspire and motivate participants of all ages and abilities.
Other high-profile Victorians supporting the campaign this year include AFLW stars Katie Brennan and Darcy Vescio, netballer Kate Moloney, Paralympian Jess Gallagher, and news personality and Premier’s Active April legend Peter Hitchener.
