Works kick off at Armstrong Creek Sports Centre
Published: 23 May 2025Construction is now underway at Geelong’s Armstrong Creek Sports Centre.
The new centre will deliver a raft of new amenities and spaces giving the community greater access to the sports they love, made possible through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Included in the plans are 4 indoor multi-sport courts, a café and gathering space. These are complemented by changing facilities, a sensory room and car parking with electric charging stations.
An outdoor plaza will feature basketball and netball hoops and areas for skating and parkour. Informal and nature play spaces, table tennis tables and a large, landscaped lawn will be great for casual catch ups and hosting community events.
The project will be delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Government and the City of Greater Geelong, and will also receive a funding contribution from the Australian Government. Fairbrother Pty Ltd is leading construction at the site, with a design by Warren and Mahoney Architects.
Environmental sustainability is a feature of the new design, with the centre registered to receive a Five Star Green Star certification.
The Centre is located on Wadawurrung Country, and recognition of this is at the heart of the design for the project. Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles marked the start of works on site with a smoking ceremony.
The Armstrong Creek Sports Centre will be complemented by a new 6-court indoor sporting complex in Waurn Ponds. There will also be upgraded and new hockey facilities at Stead Park in Corio and at Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay.
The second stage of the Wurdi Baeirr Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Torquay rounds out the new sports facilities in the area.
The Sports Centre is one of 5 projects in the Geelong and Surf Coast region and one of 16 projects across regional Victoria that are part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program. These projects are making our communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.
