Murrumbeena Bowling Club rolls out new upgrades
Published: 14 February 2025From barefoot to all-abilities bowls, players of all ages can enjoy a summer bowl at the more comfortable Murrumbeena Bowls Club thanks to recently completed upgrades.
Since 1927, Murrumbeena Bowls Club has been a focal point of bowls in the area. Today membership has grown to more than 70 people participating in a range of programs including social, all-abilities and competition bowls.
The club’s new green-side shelters provide protection from the elements giving bowlers a place to escape the sun’s rays or rain in between ends and games.
There is also new 200 lux LED lighting enabling the club to host evening bowls including social and competition activities.
The new facilities allow the club to host more intra and interclub tournaments, continue its strong engagement with the local community, and cater for more members including all abilities participants.
Club Committee Member Andrew Crommelin said, ‘This project has been highly beneficial to the club. It’s allowed greater participation for members of the community such as Tuesday night bowls, thanks to the new lights.’
‘All in all, it’s allowed our club to bring more people in, have greater participation for people of all walks of life, people facing all manner of different challenges that come to a club where they’re welcome with open arms.’
The upgrades were made possible by a $200,000 grant from the Victorian Government.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field and improving the health, wellbeing and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
