Waurn Ponds Skate Park ramps up the fun
Published: 6 September 2023More skaters can roll into Waurn Ponds Skate Park this summer, as the park boasts its new facility upgrades, backed by more than $1.7 million in funding from the Victorian Government.
The skate park is a major destination for local and regional skaters, and upgrades have expanded the park’s offerings to create a destination that caters for all ages and abilities.
Works at the park have included new beginner and advanced skating bowls, a skate plaza with seating and a refurbishment of the mini and vertical ramps.
Non-skaters can also enjoy the park’s facilities, including a court with basketball and netball rings, as well as an outdoor playground featuring parkour equipment, bars, trampolines and a flying fox.
The Waurn Ponds Skate Park was designed in consultation with the community and delivered in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, which contributed $600,000 to the works.
It is one of 2 skate park upgrades being delivered as part of the project. The second, in St Leonards, is due for completion later this year.
The Victorian Budget 2023/24 is providing more than $213 million to deliver new and improved community sports infrastructure and supports initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sports clubs and organisations.
It’s part of the more than $1.9 billion invested in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
