The four new competition courts at John Cain Memorial Park were made possible by the Victorian Government’s Inner City Netball Program.
The Parkside Netball Club has seen a rapid growth in membership in recent years and the new courts and lighting will help the club rebound strongly from the coronavirus pandemic.
The new courts will also allow local netball to host more training and matches, day and night, as well as popular development programs such as NetSetGO for juniors.
Parkside was formed six years ago and already has 22 teams and 60 players in the NetSetGO program and this boost in court space will provide the space the club needs to grow further.
Through the Inner City Netball Program, the Government is delivering 64 netball courts where they’re needed most, ensuring everyone who wants to play has access to safe and modern facilities.
The program has delivered 23 courts in Darebin across eight sites and is helping local netball clubs and associations, along with schools, field more teams and encourage more kids to get active.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, bringing people together, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving health, wellbeing and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
The Government has invested more than $1 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
