The new facilities have been made possible with $1.18 million from the first round of the government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
MacPherson Park is the regional sporting hub in the City of Melton, and Melton Phoenix has been an integral part of the local sporting community for more than 50 years.
The new pavilion will feature female friendly change and umpires’ rooms, a kitchen, community social space, a first aid room and fully accessible public amenities, to meet the needs of the growing number of girls and women signing up to play.
This will not only be a boost for the players, but will give club administrators greater flexibility in scheduling practice sessions and games at the ground.
The project is expected to generate jobs for 25 people during construction, with the pavilion due for completion mid-2022.
The Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program is supporting Victoria’s economy by working with Local Government Authorities, Alpine Resort Boards and sporting organisations to fast-track shovel-ready community sports infrastructure projects across Victoria.
Following overwhelming demand for Round One, an additional $110 million has been provided through the 2020-21 State Budget for Round Two of the Program.
Not only is this investment supporting local sporting clubs, it’s creating jobs and boosting Victoria’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
