This Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) showdown has been locked in for Geelong, Friday 19 October thanks to a Significant Sporting Events Program grant.
The game is another tourism win for Geelong with basketball fans expected to come out in droves to support the teams.
The Boomers will also be staging junior clinics in the Geelong area in the lead up to the game, as well as holding their pre-season camp in Ballarat, giving up and coming young players the chance to learn from their WNBL heroes including star Boomer and Opal Jenna O’Hea and rising star Ezi Magbegor.
The event was secured through the latest round of the Victorian Government’s $17.7 million Significant Sporting Events Program.
Over 460 events have been funded through the Significant Sporting Events Program. More than half of these events were held in regional Victoria, boosting local jobs and economies.
The game is off the back of the Victorian Government securing a number of major basketball events for Victoria including the exclusive series between the Australian Boomers and the USA Dream team at Etihad Stadium in August 2019.
