The funding will bolster and provide certainty for the VIS, ensuring its athletes are given every chance to succeed and do our state and nation proud on the world stage.
The investment will help address the recommendations of an independent review of the VIS, which found that the Institute was delivering on its goals and reaffirmed the VIS as an Australian leader in high performance sport.
In the four year cycle leading to the Rio Olympic Games, the VIS supported the second highest number of athletes, achieved the second highest number of podium results and was the most efficient of the Australian institutes – with the best ratio of athletes serviced per podium result.
That translated into 26 Victorian athletes bringing home a swag of medals from the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.
We’re proud to continue funding the first-class high performance sport programs offered at the VIS, so more aspiring stars can strive for Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games glory.
In May, the Victorian Government provided $300,000 to the VIS to pilot a new community outreach program and to update its computer and data management systems – programs that work to address key findings of the review.
