Victoria's suite of major stadia are the envy of the world, setting the scene for some of the biggest international events to come to this state including the Boxing Day Test, Australian Open, the International Champions Cup, Olympic Games , Commonwealth Games, the list is endless.
As part of a wider commitment to keep the state ahead of the game in the highly competitive major sporting and events market, the Victorian Government has formed a Ministerial Working Group to assess and determine the future needs of Victoria’s sporting stadiums and precincts.
The Ministerial Working Group will be led by Premier Daniel Andrews and includes the Treasurer, Minister for Sport, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Minister for Major Projects, and Minister for Planning.
A formal consultation process will source advice from sports and stadium industry management experts such as Melbourne Olympic Parks Trust, Melbourne Cricket Club and the Australian Football League as well as clubs, major events organisers, national sports associations to deliver a new Major Stadia Strategy - delivered by mid-2017.
