All the new courts will have competition standard lighting – which gives local clubs greater flexibility to schedule more training sessions and matches.
For the West Preston Lakeside Football Netball Club, the two new courts at JE Moore Park will significantly improve their facilities and allow them to cater for growing membership.
The three new courts at JC Donath Reserve will provide more opportunities for budding junior players to try their skills with a new NetSetGo program, and add new teams to the growing Darebin Netball Association.
The new courts are much needed, with population growth in recent years leading to a shortage of court space.
There are 23 more courts on track to be built in Darebin, including two at Northcote High School, three at Darebin Community Sports Centre, one at Fairfield Primary School, six at Thornbury High School and two at Reservoir High School.
Funding has also been tipped in to start design work for four new outdoor netball courts at John Cain Memorial Park, where new 200 lux lighting was recently unveiled.
The lighting upgrade was delivered thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, providing a major boost to the Northcote City Football Club and its growing membership.
