Active Victoria – A strategic framework for sport and recreation in Victoria, is a blueprint that sets out future Victorian priorities and strategies in the sport and recreation sector.
With Victoria’s population booming, this is our game plan to ensure even more people will have the opportunity to tap into all the benefits that only sport and recreation can deliver.
With 3.9 million participants, 16,000 sports clubs, 9,500 community sports facilities and 580,000 volunteers – sport and recreation is booming in Victoria.
In 2016, sport and recreation contributed $8.5 billion to Victoria’s economy and created the equivalent of 65,000 full time jobs, from stadia designers to sports administrators.
This blueprint aims to take our successes to a whole new level by building on Victoria’s reputation as the major events capital of Australia and creating even more opportunities for Victorians through sport and recreation.
Active Victoria will provide a platform to grow these numbers and boost participation through six key priorities:
- meet future demand
- more inclusive participation
- focus on active recreation activities
- more resources and better governance
- connect investment in major events, high performance and infrastructure
- greater collaboration across sectors and levels of government
Around 3.2 million Victorians do not currently meet the recommended level of weekly physical activity, and we want to change that.
The Victorian Government is proud to have worked with a wide range of partners and stakeholders that make up the Victorian and national sports sector to develop the new Active Victoria – A strategic framework for sport and recreation in Victoria.
