Home to the Coburg Lions Football Club and Coburg Cricket Club since it was established in 1912, the upgrade will help bring the facility back in to the modern era and provide a quality sports ground in the rapidly growing suburb.
The popular ground has been home to many top level matches, and until recently hosted the VFL Women’s Grand Final.
The new facilities will give both football and cricket clubs facilities to grow their membership, and welcome for girls and women.
The pavilion will be redeveloped to include female friendly and accessible facilities for players, umpires and visitors.
The kitchen and kiosk will be upgraded to provide modern clean and safe facilities , and a large new multi-purpose area will be developed that can be used for a wide range of training and events.
The facilities will give the Lions facilities to grow their membership, including girls and women.
The much needed upgrade is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to help local community sports clubs.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 invests $241.6 million in community sport, including more than $100 million to improve facilities and access for women.
The Victorian Government will be working with Moreland City Council who will be delivering the project with Sport and Recreation Victoria.
