$1.1 million hole-in-one for Victorian Golf Open
The Victorian Golf Open is set to tee off again in Barwon Heads and attract even more elite golfers to the tournament thanks to a $1.1 million funding boost from the Victorian Government.
The Victorian Open is the premier event on Golf Victoria’s sporting calendar and will return to the Thirteenth Beach Golf Club at Barwon Heads from February 9-12, 2017.
This is only joint men’s and women’s professional golf tournament in the world. It is historically been a launch pad for stars of Australian golf including Aaron Baddeley, Geoff Ogilvy, and Stacey Keating.
The tournament provides the perfect opportunity to showcase the best of everything that Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula can offer, with bumper crowds expected.
Off the back of hosting the World Cup of Golf, sporting events like these reaffirm Victoria’s reputation as the nation’s golfing capital. They also bring tourists to regional Victoria, create jobs and keep our local economy strong and businesses busy.
In the 2016/17 Victorian Budget, the Victorian Government chipped in a $2 million boost for the Significant Sporting Events Program so it can continue to attract the big national and international sporting events. Each year the program secures more than 70 events for Melbourne and regional Victoria.
