Moorabbin Oval Redevelopment
The Victorian Government’s $12 million contribution towards the $28.4 million Moorabbin Oval redevelopment will see state-of-the-art training facilities designed for St Kilda Football Club’s top athletes, integrated on the same site as fully accessible facilities for local sporting clubs. The redevelopment will benefit up to 15,000 players.
The redevelopment is an exciting partnership between the Victorian Government and the St Kilda Football Club, the Kingston City Council, the AFL and AFL Victoria, the Southern Football League and the Southern Metro Junior Football League.
The redevelopment at Moorabin Oval will deliver a state-of-the-art facility that integrates both community groups and high performance sport. The government's key objectives for the project, based on stakeholder needs are to:
- provide state-of-the-art facilities AFL clubs need to compete, and give grassroots organisations the home base they deserve
- design a community asset which contributes greater value to the local community
- co-locate the St Kilda Football Club with the South Metro Junior Football League, Southern Football Netball League, Sandringham Dragons and AFL Vic region staff and to accommodate their administration needs
- increase the capacity for the reserve to host events through sustainable events infrastructure.
